Welcome—Frank Bauer KA3HDO
Frank welcomed everyone to today’s meeting. He brought up the concept of branding, What does ARISS want to call itself once we move beyond the ISS? How do we adjust? We are still Amateur Radio. We are still International. We will still be on a space station. Think about this.
Frank extended a welcome to Yoshida Tetsuya, new member of the ARISS team in Japan. He also welcomed and introduced Tanya Anderson, new Director of Education for ARISS-USA.
1. Call for Acceptance of Minutes--Frank Bauer KA3HDO and Martha Muir W4MSA [Decisional]
Glenn MacDonell made a motion to accept the minutes of the July meeting.Rosalie White seconded that motion which was accepted without dissent. The minutes will be sent to Carol Jackson to be posted on the ARISS-I website.
2. 40th Anniversary Celebration Update – Frank Bauer
Frank suggested the theme for the 40th Anniversary Celebration could be ‘The Positive Impact of Amateur Radio on Human Spaceflight.”Owen Garriott’s use of ham radio on STS-9 Space Shuttle Columbia in November-December of 1983 was the first time the public could interact with an astronaut in space.Few could talk but thousands could hear him.
Schedule for the week:
Frank is expecting about 150 people at the celebration though we could accommodate more. There will be a cost to attend, about the equivalent of an expensive wedding. Frank is still looking for corporate donors to bring the cost down.
