Go To Meeting/Teleconference
October 17, 2023 – 1100 UTC
Interpreter: Alexandra Tussing
Roll Call—Martha Muir, W4MSA
Martha took attendance by recording the names shown on the Go To Meeting screen.
Welcome—Frank Bauer KA3HDO
Frank welcomed everyone to today’s meeting and said it was good to hear everyone.
1. Call for Acceptance of Minutes--Frank Bauer KA3HDO and Martha Muir W4MSA [Decisional]
Rosalie made a motion to accept the minutes of the September meeting. Glenn seconded that motion which was accepted without dissent. The minutes will be sent to Carol Jackson to be posted on the ARISS-I website.
2. 40th Anniversary Celebration Update – Frank Bauer
Frank sent out an email about the 40th Anniversary Celebration to the ARISS delegates and said that the website is currently open for a limited amount of time so that these folks can make their hotel reservations before he opens the site up for others to make their reservations. There is a tab for the “40th Anniversary” on the ARISS-I webpage.
“Invitation Only” refers to the ARISS-I delegates so that they (and not the general public) can sign up for the annual Face to Face international meeting; in other words, you are invited. These meetings are currently scheduled for a smaller room but we can switch (and pay for) a larger room if enough people register for the F2F conference.
The website will be open for 30 minutes after the end of this meeting.
SimpleTix is being used to handle registration payments. Registrations include breakfast, lunch, snacks, and beverages at the venue. Tickets for the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Center, adjacent to the conference venue, are included in the registration fee. The cost of the registration for the ARISS International Delegates meeting is $50 for both days, including breakfast, lunch, beverages, and Visitor Center tickets. The cost of the 40th Anniversary Celebration is $125. The cost of Friday night’s Gala under the Saturn V is also $125. These costs do not actually cover the expenses of the venues and events. We’re planning that donations and exhibitor booth fees will cover the rest. Please refer donation and exhibitor interested organizations to Frank. Frank showed the chart of the benefits of Platinum, Gold, etc. sponsorship levels. People or organizations can also ‘sponsor an astronaut.’
All participants in these events must be cleared by security at the Kennedy Space Center. Watch for deadlines to get your information to the designated site.
Oliver thanked Frank and the 40th Anniversary team for getting this organized.
Rosalie said she talked with Mark Tharp at ARRL about making this an “ARRL Specialty Convention.”
3. SSTV Updates – Frank Bauer
Frank said that ‘everyone loves SSTV.’ He then turned this discussion to Sergey. Sergey said that testing will begin on October 27 at 1400 UTC. The testing will continue through October 31. Sergey said they have asked the astronauts/cosmonauts to turn up the volume so that radio amateurs on the ground can hear that they are catching the signal. Please let Frank or Sergey know if you can’t hear the signal. Sergey wants to get SSTV up and running in time for the 40th Anniversary Celebrations. The US has an EVA scheduled for October 30 which may impact SSTV.
Frank thanked Sergey for his work on this. Remember this is only a test.
4. Agenda for the ARISS-I Meeting next February – Frank Bauer
Frank called for Agenda items for the next Face to Face meeting in February. Please send these items to the ARISS-I officers. Based on these items, an Agenda will be announced and updated for every monthly meeting up until February.
Glenn asked if the F2F meeting will be available on Go To Meeting. Frank said ‘yes.’
AOB (Any Other Business)
Rosalie reminded folks to register in advance and not expect to register at the door. Remember that security at the Kennedy Space Center has to check folks out in advance. Security will do this for folks attending the Gala, too. Be aware of cut off dates for the special rates at the hotels, too. December 19th for the Marriott and January 19th for all others. Let Frank know where you will be staying.
Frank will be sending out a list of the volunteer opportunities to help with all of this. Please let him know which one(s) you’d like to help with.
Frank thanked Alexandra for her interpretation today.
Next Meeting November 21, 2023 1200 UTC
Respectively submitted by Martha Muir, ARISS-I Secretary.
